hello! i'm jade tan, a malaysian-chinese illustrator based in switzerland.

jadetheshade is my pen name;
an amphibolous moniker that a friend in middle school came up with on a whim. it has stuck with me ever since.

i love to explore nostalgia, culture and identity through my art. i use my art as an outlet for self expression and a way to communicate. sometimes i want to tell a story, and sometimes i just need to vent or get my ideas out.

a lot of my inspiration comes from other forms of art; music, fashion and media (film/tv/literature). i find inspiration in anything and everything.

i enjoy using a wide range of media for my art, as seen in my works.

i usually tend to fluctuate between using (color) pencil on paper and my ipad / stylus, depending on how i feel.
